Chances are you or someone you know have at least once in your life heard the words “I’ve lived here for so long but haven’t seen that”. You don’t have to travel to a hipster city in Europe just to get that graffiti inspired selfie. Forget the laneways of Berlin, it’s time to check out the streets of Shoreditch. Street art in Shoreditch is on another level, with world famous artists like Banksy who’s work you’ll find on Rivington Street to murals done by locals on shutters, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to taking that perfect Instagram or snapchat story. Better yet, the street art here changes daily, so even if you have been here before it’s definitely a part of East London worth visiting again.
Some streets worth visiting include Hanbury Street, Fashion Street, Rivington Street and Brick Lane. Our very own Point A Shoreditch hotel located on 8-10 Paul Street, also features some funky murals by local artist Vic Lee. Have you ever noticed just how close some tube stations are, you’d think they’re almost walkable? You guessed right, many of the tube stations in central London are within a few minutes walk of eachother. So if you’re going to walk it, why not make a day out of it. Ditch that un-needed tube journey and try a long summery walk instead.
The Jubilee Walk is a great place to start, although the entire walk covers a distance of 60km in total, there are several routes of the walk we would highly recommend. These routes include Westminster Bridge to Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge to Westminster Bridge and Buckingham Palace to Little Venice. Together these routes cover several famous London landmarks including Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Kensington Palace. What’s more, these selected routes are also within close proximity to our Point A Hotels in Westminster and Paddington. For more information about the Jubilee walk check out the Jubilee Greenway page by Transport for London.
If you prefer to exercise those brain muscles, then why not check out London’s most visited museums. Museums are now allowed to reopen under new Government guidelines, however each museum will have their own timeline for reopening and different rules depending on their venue size. Be sure to keep an eye out on some of our favourite museum websites including the British Museum, Natural History Museum and Science Museum of London and be the first to know when they are officially reopen. Many of these museums may also require to book a time slot to ensure the museum meets social distancing guidelines. Regardless though, a stroll through any of these institutions will no doubt enlighten the mind. Our Point A Kensington hotel is an excellent choice if a museum-inspired staycation is on your mind.
With many pubs and bars having to ensure social distancing is maintained, many are getting creative with how they use their outdoor space. Elba Bar have setup their own outdoor rooftop movies showcasing retro films, an excellent idea during your staycation in the city. It’s also just a 6 minute walk from our Point A Westminster hotel. Skylight Rooftop Bar located at Tobacco Dock is also worth visiting. Recently reopened, this chilled out rooftop bar offers plenty of outdoor activities including croquet, pétanque and cocktail making classes. Along with stunning views of the London Skyline from the comfort of your own private booth, you simply can’t go wrong. It’s also a short 20 minute trip from our Point A Canary Wharf hotel.
London is a melting pot of the most delicious cuisines from across the world. If your experience of lockdown involved many months of home cooked meals, then it’s probably time to take the chef’s hat off and let a real chef do the cooking. Many restaurants now require booking a reservation to ensure social distancing is maintained, the good news is that the majority have reopened. We would recommend visiting Soho, Coal Drops Yard and Covent Garden which all have ample amount of choice in terms of flavour and bars. Our Point A Kings Cross hotel is just a short walk or cycle/bus ride away from these food hubs.
If you’re after a real treat, why not spoil yourself at a restaurant with a view. Several high-rise buildings in London such as The Shard, The Gherkin, Sky Garden (Walkie Talkie Building) and Heron Tower offer stunning views of the London Skyline and are also home to world-renowned restaurants. They are also super close to our Point A Liverpool Street and Shoreditch hotels.
There has never been a better time to unplug, unwind and enjoy the many lush green parks London has to offer. We would recommend checking out Greenwich Park, also home to the Prime Meridian line and nearby to our Point A Canary Wharf hotel. There are so many benefits of a digital detox including reduced stress, better sleep and improved happiness. Combined with a picnic in the park or stroll around the grounds, an unplugged green themed staycation will surely uplift your ‘lockdown’ self.
