Dark Nights, Festive Lights

As it starts to get dark around 4pm, we're admittedly looking for reasons to be cheerful. The twinkle of Christmas lights is quite a welcome sight in our cities, it gives us a great excuse to stroll around of an evening, delighting in our new scarves. 

Here is our guide to the best lights to brighten your night in each of our four cities...


London Burns Bright

Central: The stylish peak of London's lights every year is undoubtedly Carnaby Street. They feature a new theme every year, with past themes honouring the Rolling Stones, sustainability, and even outer space! THIS YEAR features the best lights from their 25 year of decorating.

Southbank has a Winter Festival until the 8th of Jan, with a pop-up market, seasonal theatre, a New Year's Eve party (at Royal Festival Hall), art exhibitions and more.

Canary Wharf's
Winter Lights (until the 28th of Jan) boast to be the largest free lights festival in London. Ice Sculptures kick off the festivities in November, then comes the ice rink, projections,  outdoor dining and drinking. It all sounds pretty impressive!

Edinburgh Twinkles

Overlooking Edinburgh, the castle gives the city a lot of character, and this Christmas they're bringing back the Castle of Colour for a third year. The event features animated projections on the castle, along with historical tales. 

The Edinburgh Botanics will once again be transformed for the festive season, with surreal colours and decorations. There will be hot food and drink vendors to keep the mulled wine and snacks flowing.

Dreamy Dublin

The big light show this year is at the Dublin Zoo, where Wild Lights creates a night time festive experience. This year's theme, The Magic of Life, is reported to be extra special.

Other Festive musts in Dublin include the much-loved Grafton Street,
and the iconic Temple Bar district.

Glasgow Loves Christmas

The home of Glasgow Loves Christmas is George Square where you'll find a full blown spectacle of trees, lights, a festive ferris wheel, Scotland's biggest outdoor ice rink, as well as food and drink vendors.
